British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith bested a quality field on Sunday (May 23), sending early warning shots to her competitors after winning the women’s 100m in the Wanda Diamond League meet in Gateshead, UK.
The Briton led from start to finish, delivering an exhilerating win in front of a home crowd and bagging the eight crucial points to lead the women’s standing in the event.
Stopping the clock at 11.35 seconds, Asher-Smith and her season-best time finished just ahead of American sensation Sha’Carri Richardson, who posted 11.44s for second.
Ivorian sprinter Marie Josée Ta Lou also clocked a season’s best of 11.48 to snatch third place, ahead of Jamaica’s pocket rocket Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce who finished fourth in 11.51, also a season’s best time.
