Dancehall artiste Ding Dong is among a group of popular Jamaicans who have joined forces with the Ministry of Health and Wellness to assist in the fight against COVID-19.

All week long the ministry has been rolling out its latest Every Vax Counts campaign, with the dancehall star being unveiled as one of the faces of the campaign on Thursday (August 19).

In a post shared to the health minister’s Instagram feed, Ding Dong is seen along with a tweet, in which the artiste endorses the inoculation campaign sharing the reason he got the jab.

“I got vaccinated because it’s the way moving forward to protect myself and my family,” reads the tweet, below the image of Ding Dong.

Minister Tufton captioned the photo, “Save yuhself! @dingdongravers knows that #EveryVaxCounts when it comes to protecting yourself and those closest.”

Ding Dong’s endorsement of the campaign though not shared on his own social platforms, caught the attention of  Instagram users who lauded the artiste for being among the first in the dancehall fraternity to endorse the COVID-19 vaccine, a move that has been seen as progressive by some.

“Finally! Representation from the dancehall community. The public education campaign is critical now,” said one IG user.

“Proud to see our celebrities and influencers endorse getting vaccinated so we can get back to life,” added another.

However, others were critical of the ministry’s decision to use the dancehall entertainer, with some suggesting that he had not set a good example for others to follow as it relates to adhering to the  protocols, citing his attendance at Usain Bolt’s party in 2020 and the recently concluded Dream Weekend.

“He was thoroughly enjoying Dream without a mask,“ slammed one IG user.

“Rolls eye wasn’t he one of them that was up by Bolt’s house at the first super spreader event, woiee and you wonder why people don’t trust politicians,” added another

Television presenter Simone Clarke Cooper and Dahlia Harris are among a group of notable Jamaicans taking part in the Every Vax Counts campaign.
