Disney’s highly anticipated D23 ultra fans event whet appetites for a full serving of franchise sequels for the silver screen and television.

Disney and Pixar fans were teased with the upcoming ‘Frozen 3‘, ‘Incredibles 3‘, ‘Zootopia 2‘, ‘Toy Story 5‘ and ‘Moana 2‘ titles.

Arguably the first project to screen after D23 on Sunday (August 11), the ‘Lion King‘ franchise will be getting a prequel titled ‘Mufasa: The Lion King‘, available in theatres in December 2024.

The box office hit ‘Inside Out‘ will also get a spin-off set between the events of the first two films.

It will be available for streaming in 2025 by Disney+ customers and is currently titled ‘Dream Productions‘.  Jennifer Lee, Pixar’s chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studio, teased concept art for ‘Frozen 3‘ which will make its debut in 2027.

Zootopia 2‘ will be in theatres by 2025 with a new anthropomorphic neighbour in town. ‘Toy Story 5‘ will explore the roles of our old toy friends in the technological age, with what viewers can assume is an iPad kid.

During the showcase, ‘Moana 2‘ was joined by actors Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho who play Maui and Moana respectively. The pair were joined by dancers and drummers adorned in Polynesian costumes. The film will be in theatres on November 27, and the island princess awaits a new adventure with her new sister Simea.

Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter revealed that ‘Incredibles 3‘ was in the works at the end of his presentation. The writer and director behind the first two movies, Brad Bird, will be working on the third instalment. With no release date announced just yet, fans are already speculating on new characters and if Jack-Jack will finally age up.

It’s no secret that Disney knows their target audience and it is certainly not a coincidence that all the films mentioned earlier happened to be incredibly successful at the box office. Other movies to come are ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash‘, ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu‘ and an original Pixar film, ‘Hoppers‘, starring Bobby Moynihan and Jon Hamm.

In even more exciting news, the early 2000s classic ‘Freaky Friday‘ starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, will be getting a sequel nearly twenty-one years after its initial release.

Titled ‘Freakier Friday‘, Curtis told the fervent crowd “It feels like no time has passed” while a slideshow of teaser pictures played in the background.

‘Freakier Friday’ will be in theatres in 2025.

The garage of these new releases will certainly satisfy both long-time Disney fans and newcomers.
