Walt Disney Studios unveiled a first look of its live-action remake of ‘Snow White’, which releases in theatres in March 2025.
Starring the talented singer/actress Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the evil queen, the upcoming Hollywood musical fantasy movie is directed by Marc Webb.
The entertainment conglomerate dropped the trailer last Friday (August 9) at the D23 showcase, and it has already gained over five million views on YouTube.
Glimpses of the remake of the original 1937 film, ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarves‘ included Zegler singing the iconic song ‘Whistle While You Work‘, CGI-generated dwarves and an enchanting woodland location.
In a 2022 interview with Variety, Zegler and Gadot mentioned that this version of ‘Snow White‘ will have a “modern edge” excluding the overplayed damsel in distress element. Rachel’s comments triggered responses by ‘anti-woke’ social media accounts criticising Disney’s attempt to make Snow White a ‘girlboss’.
Rachel Zegler also came under fire for being a Latina playing a character described with ‘skin as white as snow’. She denounced the criticisms on her X (formerly Twitter) page.
The film was written by ‘Barbie‘ writer/director Greta Gerwig, along with Erin Cressida Wilson. This would be the fourth Disney live-action adaptation of the original movies, following ‘Cinderella‘, ‘Beauty and the Beast‘ and ‘The Little Mermaid‘.
