Known as Creole Day in English, it is an annual celebration in October that has been taking place on the last Friday (October 28) in Dominica and the last Sunday (October 30) in St Lucia.
It is an islandwide effort to pass on cultural practices and relics to the next generation as locals celebrate the mixed African and French influences in their history.
Throughout the day and preceding week, locals pay homage to the culture with traditional art, performances, music and dance, eating traditional dishes, and wearing traditional clothing.
