
Raquel Peña, vice president of the Dominican Republic, was among the highest-ranking stateswomen attending the swearing-in of Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness, who sought to strengthen cooperation ties with Jamaica
Holness, assuming leadership of the Jamaican government for the third consecutive term after being re-elected in the recently held general elections, was sworn in at King’s House under the auspices of Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen.

During her visit, Peña had an audience with Prime Minister Holness to express her gratitude for the invitation and highlighted the historic bonds of friendship that unite the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, underscoring the importance of continuing to promote a shared agenda for the benefit of both countries and by extension, the Caribbean.
In her remarks, the VP emphasised that the visit represents “a firm commitment to continue strengthening cooperation ties with Caribbean countries, with Jamaica being a strategic ally of the Dominican Republic in building a strong and integrated Caribbean.”
Peña also had a cordial exchange with Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen, during which she reiterated the Dominican government’s willingness to work together to foster trust, create opportunities, and generate shared prosperity in the region.

Peña’s presence carried historic significance and reflects the growing importance of the bilateral relationship, as well as the commitment of both countries to building a more united, stable, and prosperous Caribbean.
