Luka Dončić’s behaviour has landed him in trouble again, with the NBA handing the Lakers guard a $50,000 fine following Sunday’s game against the New York Knicks.
The incident happened during Los Angeles’ 110-97 win when Dončić fell while attempting to draw a charge. Instead of getting the call, he was whistled for a foul. Moments later, cameras caught him making what appeared to be a money gesture toward the officials, a move the league described as inappropriate and unprofessional.
Dončić is no stranger to tense exchanges with referees. The Slovenian star has already racked up 15 technical fouls this season, putting him just one away from an automatic one-game suspension.
This is not the first time he has faced discipline for the same type of gesture. In 2023, while playing for the Dallas Mavericks, he made a similar motion toward referees during a game.
His frequent reactions to officiating have drawn criticism from several analysts, who say his focus on calls sometimes overshadows his play.
