The former Oceana Hotel in downtown Kingston is to reopen its doors on May 31, 2022, under the Hilton brand.

The hotel will be called ROK Hotel and it will be part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection.

In making the announcement of the opening date, Hilton Hotels says the 168-room property will include several amenities including an outdoor pool and bar and a fitness centre along with three dining concepts.

The property is located in the heart of the Kingston Waterfront, an area that has been in the midst of a dramatic renaissance in recent years. Jamaica has been looking to reposition Kingston as a tourism destination in recent years, and now the city is building up its hotel stock in recent times.

The capital city is also seeing a wave of new airlifts from major carriers like American Airlines and JetBlue, which is complimenting the push to grow Kingston into a major tourism destination.

Holness noted that Jamaicans often dismiss political rhetoric as meaningless. However, he argued that words carry power. “We have a tendency to believe that word is wind. In today’s world, wind is energy. So Word shapes minds. Words guide our hearts. Words signal what kind of leadership we have,” he said.
