On this World Heart Day, Jamaica stands in solidarity with the global community in recognising the importance of cardiovascular health. Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death both worldwide and here at home, claiming far too many lives and cutting short the potential of our people.
This observance is not only a call for individual responsibility but also a reminder of our collective duty. Every Jamaican deserves access to affordable preventive care, timely diagnosis, and effective treatment. As a nation, we must strengthen our public health infrastructure, invest in primary care, and expand public education campaigns so that lifestyle changes, early detection, and treatment are within the reach of all.
The Opposition remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing policies that prioritise heart health and overall wellness. We will continue to advocate for increased resources for screening programmes, improved access to essential medications, and the promotion of healthier living environments.
Today, let us recommit ourselves to building a Jamaica where every citizen has the opportunity to live a long and healthy life, free from the preventable burdens of cardiovascular disease. Strong hearts build strong families, strong communities, and indeed, a strong nation.
