Elder statesman, Dr. Peter Phillips, is back at the University of the West Indies (UWI), where he taught several years ago before entering full-time politics in 1989.

The retired politician and former President of the main Opposition People’s National Party has landed a job at the Mona School of Business at Management, UWI Mona, taking up the position effective today (June 15), as Executive-in-Residence. 

In this role, Dr Phillips will serve as a bridge between the business school and the private and public sectors, engaging with students, faculty members and the wider society to share his expertise. He will also policy oriented research and publication in the advancement of UWI’s mission and vision.

In making the announcement, MSBM remarked that “Dr. Phillips is a renowned public servant who has served in Government for more than three decades, holding various ministerial portfolios and distinguishing himself through strong results across those areas. His skills as a policy maker have been lauded by global institutions, including the International Monetary Fund.”

Beyond his public service career, Dr Phillips is an accomplished academic who served on UWI’s faculty before entering the public policy arena. During this time, he produced a strong body of research and publications in economic development, governance and public finance.

Phillips holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics, a Master’s in Government from UWI, and a Doctorate in Sociology from the State University of New York at Binghamton (USA).
