Restaurants of Jamaica (ROJ), operators of KFC and Pizza Hut, is the latest company to pump a significant invest into the revitalisation of downtown Kingston, this through its recent J$120-million renovation and upgrade of its KFC Lower King Street restaurant.

Residents and employees of downtown Kingston have welcomed the renovation, which symbolises ROJ’s confidence in downtown Kingston’s continued prospects as a regional commercial and business hub.

The restaurant’s significant facelift is part of KFC Jamaica’s ongoing efforts to create a more comfortable, modern and upgraded quick service restaurant environment in all its locations islandwide

“The King Street Restaurant is in the heart of the capital city, so the look and feel of the restaurant need to reflect that. Downtown Kingston is on the rise, and we are proud to be a part of that movement to restore the former glory to our capital,” shared ROJ Managing Director Mark Myers. 

He continued: “This KFC location is more than just a business for ROJ; it represents decades of history. KFC Lower King Street was the eighth KFC restaurant in Jamaica, opening its doors more than 30 years ago, and its longevity is a constant reminder of KFC’s dedication to Jamaica. We are bullish on Jamaica all the way.”

When fully staffed, the KFC Lower King Street restaurant will provide 41 jobs at different levels, including supervisory and management roles, and provide opportunities for staff elevation and career development.

Myers stated: “People development is a core part of our business. We have incredible team members who have risen through the ranks from entry level to the management level. With the reopening and renovation of this restaurant, there are even more opportunities for the members of our team to showcase their talents and grow professionally. Restaurants across the globe have been negatively impacted by labour challenges over the past two years, and we are no exception. However, with the ongoing post-pandemic recovery, even more opportunities for human capacity development are available here at ROJ.”

KFC’s expansion into rural Jamaica continues with the impending opening of a new KFC restaurant in Christiana, Manchester. The new restaurant would bring the total number of KFC restaurants islandwide to 41, with 27 of those located outside the Kingston and St Andrew area.
