Fast-rising swimwear and resort-wear designer Daniela Stone of DTS Swim is excited about making her debut at the world famous Miami Swim Week, scheduled for July 8-11 in the United States.

Over the last four years, Stone has seen her line of colourful unique hand-made pieces transcend Jamaica’s shores by appealing to an increasingly receptive global clientele.

Miami Swim Week, she said, presents a golden opportunity to expand the reach of the brand even farther.

“We are a small business in Jamaica that ships swimsuits all over the world and we are looking to make the brand even bigger now by doing Miami Swim Week and we are very excited to show a 15-piece collection that weekend,” said Stone, whose DTS brand will share space with some industry leaders like Beach Bunny, Acacia, Vitamin A Swim, Maaji and Verde Limon.

“We will be showing 15 pieces from a brand new collection. We recently released a five-piece collection in Easter and that has been doing really well. The team from Miami reached out to us to be a part of the show and, of course, we could not say no.”

DTS began in 2017 and debuted at Kerry Ann Clarke’s fashion series Collection Moda to complimentary reviews. However, the overwhelming appeal of the swimwear line prompted Stone to crossover fully into swim and resort wear.

“Collection Moda was very good for us and the reception was really good. Each year since we have released a mini-collection of between five and seven pieces,” Stone said.

“Since releasing the swimsuits over the years, we have become more popular not only in Jamaica but internationally as well because we have a website and about 40, if not 50 per cent of our clientele, is internationally based.”

Stone revealed that, since their clients heard news that DTS was going to be at Miami Swim Week, their reaction has been invigorating.

“Overall, the feedback has been overwhelming and we are focused and prepared and our clients that have been growing with us over the years are excited as well and happy that we are going to show these pieces,” said Stone, who plans to make a lasting impression on the organisers.

“Coming from Jamaica where its summer all year round, I’m sure they’re looking forward to what we will bring to the table because there will be a great line up of designers from all over the world, from Australia, Venezuela, Brazil, Canada and I think there is a designer from Trinidad as well so we just plan to represent Jamaica well and hope to gain as much as possible from this experience.

“It’s a new market, new people and we’re just looking to capitalise on this opportunity because Miami Swim Week is a huge franchise and it’s a huge fashion-industry weekend, so, as a brand from Jamaica, we’re very grateful and we’re excited to show these new pieces and we hope everybody loves them.
