It is now official, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been stripped of their royal titles and patronages.

The couple made the revelation today following a discussion with the Queen, confirming rumours last week.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said that Meghan and Harry remain “much loved members of the royal family”.

Meghan and Harry first announced plans to step down from their royal duties in January 2020 after the duchess was subjected to racist and sexist attacks from the British press.

The statement from Buckingham Palace, read, “the Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of the Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service… . While all are saddened by their decision, the Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family.”

Since their initial announcement earlier last year, Meghan and Harry relocated to Los Angeles with their son, Archie. They recently announced to the world that they are expecting their second child in the next few months.

The couple’s decision to move away from the Royal Family has afforded them more freedom to discuss pressing issues of concern to them such as the importance of voting to the damaging effects of social media. In September, the duchess made a surprise appearance on America’s Got Talent, voicing her support for a contestant called Archie Williams, who spent 36 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit until his release last year.

They are booked to appear on a televised interview with Oprah to discuss their move to America and their plans going forward.

According to a spokesman for Harry and Meghan,”as evidenced by their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the UK and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organisations they have represented regardless of official role. We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”
