It was the first meeting in primetime for two superstar quarterbacks.
Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa are extremely familiar with each other’s game. The two’s relationship dates back to when they took turns being each other’s backup in back-to-back championship-winning seasons for the University of Alabama.
The two faced off in Philadelphia last night (October 22) in a primetime showdown. Miami Dolphins had led the league in touchdowns and offensive rating, while the Eagles had one of the best-rated defensive lines in the game.
Failing a crushing loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 4, the Dolphins had been imperious all season, including an absolute thrashing of the Denver Broncos which saw them score seven touchdowns. Similarly, the Eagles had an uncharacteristic loss against the Jets to put a single blimp on an otherwise spotless season.
Both teams went into the matchup with an identical 5-1 record and first in their respective divisions.
The Eagles opened the night with a productive drive down the field but after failing to capitalize on a trip to the red zone, they settled for a 24-yard field goal to open the scoring. The Dolphins had a short field after their defense forced a Hurts turnover, but they could not make it into the end zone past the Eagles’ defensive front and had to rely on a 40-yard field goal to level the score.

The home team would register the first touchdown of the night with a completion to tight end Dallas Goedert, who ran into the end-zone to put the Eagles up by seven.
After Jalen Hurts scrambled out of the pocket and ran into a throw to A.J Brown to save the drive, he would later carry the ball into the end-zone through the Eagles’ usual perfect execution of the quarterback sneak.
The Dolphins found themselves down by fourteen with two minutes left in the half. Superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill would score the visitor’s first touchdown and put the Dolphins in the game, only down by one score going into half-time.

The Dolphins would have a turnover on downs after failing to convert on 4th and 3. It would be the defense that would put them on level terms, with a pick-six from Jerome Baker in the following Eagles’ drive.
In true Philadelphia fashion, the Eagles would respond, and with fifteen seconds left in the third quarter, they would retake the lead with a touchdown by A.J. Brown. Eagles cornerback Darius Slay would later register an interception of his own and the Eagles would regain possession early in the fourth.

After a monster reception by Brown, between two Dolphin defenders, the offense would punch in a touchdown through a spinning run into the endzone by Kenneth Gainwell. The Eagles’ defense would seal the game with three sacks in a row and the offensive line took a knee to end the game.
The Eagles would score four touchdowns on the night and win handsomely at 31-17. The Eagles are now 6-1 and will face the Washington Commanders in Week 8, while the Dolphins fell to 5-2 and will look to rebound against the Patriots.
