As part of its response to the alarming obesity rate among students across Jamaica, The Ministry of Education and Youth has called for the public to provide feedback on the National School Nutrition Policy.

The National School Nutrition Policy, announced by Health and Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton as he made his contribution to the 2022-2023 Sectoral Debate recently, seeks to improve the nutritional status of children across the island and to underscore steps the Government has taken to address the threats faced by Jamaicans as a result of unhealthy diets and physical inactivity.

In a release today (May 27), the education ministry said the Government has long been responsive to the nutritional status of the Jamaican children as seen in the establishment of the School Feeding Programme since 1939.

The National School Nutrition Policy, a joint effort between the education and health ministries, was tabled in the House of Representatives as a Green Paper on May 11.
