Teachers who are seeking employment within public education institutions are set to receive greater access to job opportunities after the Ministry of Education and Youth launched a job recruitment platform to central space for job seekers and employers to connect.

Education Minister Fayval Williams made the announcement on Wednesday (August 16), during a post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.

“We continue to ensure that we have various strategies, the flexibility for our schools and one of the things that we added this year and we are very pleased about is that we have created a job’s platform for the education sector, specific to the education sector so teachers looking for a job in Jamaica, wherever the school is, they can go on that platform and do the search,” the minister said.

Charlene Robinson, education officer within the Ministry of Education, gave an overview of the platform, explaining that it is set to enable principals to complete the entire recruitment process online.

“It is a fast easy way for finding teachers and jobs in our education sector and the beauty about it is that it is available worldwide so teachers who are looking to return to the system, they can actually find a job before they come back, so they know that they are coming back into a post that they are able to continue to support our education system,” she said.

Robinson also noted that the job portal boasts several features such as allowing teachers and principals to search and apply for job openings, post resumes, create a profile advertising themselves to potential employers, get a feel of the job and remuneration and schedule job interviews.

“One of the important features that go along with the platform is that of communication, so once the teachers create their profile, once the schools create their profile also because it is an opportunity for schools to sell themselves. Schools that are in rural areas where people are not aware of job openings and a teacher in Kingston sees that post and take interest in that post they will be able to get an idea of the school without having to travel so they school get an opportunity to attract from a wider pool of potential employees,” she said.

Similarly, the education officer noted that the platform enables real-time communication between teachers and school administrators.

The portal will become available to job seekers and recruiters on August 27.
