A group of eight Haitian migrants are now in police custody after they landed on the island illegally in Portland on Sunday, May 19.

The group is believed to be among a bigger group that landed illegally at a beach in Hector’s River, Portland, late last night. The police are uncertain about the total number of Haitians who landed and whether any remain at large.

The eight Haitian nations were reportedly picked up at various locations in Hector’s River during a pre-dawn operation by the lawmen. They were reportedly later transported to the Port Antonio Hospital.

They were taken approximately 26 miles away for medical treatment and check-ups shortly after 9:00 this morning.

Last year another group consisting of 10 Haitians was also found along a roadway in Hector’s River, Portland, and were sent home less than eight hours after receiving medical treatment.
