
Japanese video game development company, FromSoftware, inc., known for creating the infamous Dark Souls franchise and more recently as the creators of action role-playing game Elden Ring copped this year’s title of ‘The Game Award for Game of the Year’ ahead of God of War: Ragnarok at the game awards on Thursday (December 8).
This is the company’s second time winning the award.
Elden Ring, was released in February 2022 and quickly took the world by storm, becoming the game that dominated video game culture for some weeks. The game is an open world journey with world building aspects written by A Song of Ice and Fire novelist and screenwriter George R. R. Martin.

In the game, players go on a journey to repair the titular ‘Elden Ring’ and become the new ‘Elden Lord’.
In addition to game of the year, Elden Ring, won the awards for Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction and Best Role Playing game and was nominated for Best Narrative, Best Score and Music and Best Audio Design.
This year’s title was hotly contested by Santa Monica Studios’ God of War: Ragnarok, which won awards for Best Narrative, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Best Action/Adventure, Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Performance and was nominated for Best Art Direction and Best Game Direction.
