Two-time 200-metre world champion Dafne Schippers is officially calling it quits and leaving the tracks after more than two decades in track and field.

The 31-year-old athlete announced her retirement on Tuesday, September 26, in a social media post.

“The race stops here. As an athlete, you always know this day will come, that at one point, your career will be a moment in time. A collection of memories and hopefully medals. Today, I have decided to take my life off the track to purse and embrace whatever comes next but not without saying a massive thank you for all the endless support. It has been a journey without regret,” the athlete said.

She went on to thank her family, team, fans, and sponsors for their support over the years.

Schipper’s fans also reacted to her retirement and wished her luck in her new endeavours.

“An honour to have seen an athlete like you compete, good luck in your new projects,” a fan said.

Another fan said: “Thank you Dafne for all the fantastic moments and, of course, for the beautiful Dafne Schippers bridge.”

The Dutch athlete holds the European record in the 200 meters with a time of 21.63 seconds, making her the sixth-fastest woman of all time at this distance.
