England got off to a good start in its Euro 2020 campaign held this year beating Croatia 1-0 earlier today (June 13) at Wembley, London.

The goal was scored by Jamaican-born Raheem Sterling.

Many commentators questioned whether Sterling should have been included in the squad. His performance answered all those doubts.

England manager Gareth Southgate has kept faith with the Manchester City winter and he has not let him down.

Spurs maestro Harry Kane had a quiet afternoon with Kalvin Phillips who considered playing for Jamaica, putting in an impressive performance.

Phillips set up Sterling’s match-winning goal.

Twenty year-old Phil Foden hit the post in the first half and was a constant menace to Croatia’s defence.

Croatia beat England in 2018’s World Cup semi-final so this defeat serves as a kind of revenge. Today, England played directly moving the ball with pace and breaking through midfield.

England’s goalkeeper Jordan Pickford known to make some howling errors among some unbelievable saves was steady and reliable today, putting in a confident display.

It has been a while since England has won its opening game in a Euro championship. The Three Lions next face Scotland on Friday.

Raheem Sterling said: “ It feels good. I’ve always said if I play at Wembley in a major tournament, I’m scoring. It’s great to finally do that.

“It’s great to get off to a win. Now we have the games to look forward to and hopefully go into them and win again.

“It’s been a long season for me, I couldn’t wait to get started with England and I knew it would be a positive one.”
