Entertainment remains one of the drawing cards for visitors who flock to the seven RIU Hotels across the country around the year.
Niurka Garcia Linton, director of sales at RIU Resorts Jamaica, noted that there are copious entertainment offerings at the properties for fun-seeking guests.
“It’s one of the reasons that they come. We have beach parties, you name it; we have activities all through the day,” explained Garcia Linton.
“It is one of those defining pillars when you talk about RIU. If you are trying to have a good time a lot of the time you hear we should go to RIU. You have entertainment throughout the entire day. The properties are large enough, so even if you don’t want to be part of it or they feel it is too much, we can move to a quiet place. But if you want it you can have it there,” she added.

She highlighted the number of different parties, including pool parties and the signature RIU Party which alternates between the neon party and the white party that are distinguishing features of the Spanish hotel.
“For instance, in Montego Bay where the pool is relatively close to the lobby, when we are having foam party you see the wind carrying the foam all the way to the lobby. It is like kids in a candy store. And every property where we go, and you have one of those parties here (RIU Negril), it is really amazing the kind of engagement that the clients have. They do participate,” Garcia Linton said.
She said the local market is one of the hotel’s most important markets.

“We work very close with them, we have specials that we launch into the market on a very regular basis. Right now for instance at RIU Negril, which is the property that opened recently, we are running a special, just for the local market.
She was quick to add that locals do not only flock to the properties for enjoyment on weekends, “but corporate Jamaica also supports us a lot”.
“We go to Kingston, we meet with them we do lunch with them and we show them and remind them why RIU is a brand of choice for them and the support from corporate Jamaica is really amazing,” she said.

Garcia Linton was speaking to members of the media who were taken on a tour of the recently renovated RIU Negril on Friday.
The resort reopened last month after operations were shuttered for four months to facilitate the renovation.
The newly upgraded resort now boasts 600 fully refurbished rooms, along with 28 swim-up rooms designed for guests seeking a private pool experience during their stay.

Three additional restaurants were added to the resort, bringing the total to eight. The newest restaurants are the “American Country” restaurant, “Pepe’s Food,” and the “Tiki Taco” taco station, which serves Mexican cuisine.
It was on one of his many trips, in 1998, when Luis Riu, CEO of the Spanish hotel chain, set his sights on Jamaica. His decision to commit to the island led to the opening of RIU’s first hotel in 2001: the Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril.
