The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) says it is all set for the by-elections in the constituencies of Trelawny Southern and St Andrew North Western and the electoral divisions of St Thomas Eastern and Aenon Town in Clarendon Northern on Friday, November 22.
The polls will open at 7:00 am and close at 5:00 pm, after which the preliminary counting of ballots will immediately take place at each polling station.
A total of 271 polling stations have been established for voting on election day. The EOJ says some 74,700 electors will be eligible to vote on November 22, based on the May 31, 2024 voters’ list. Only electors registered to vote in these constituencies and electoral divisions will be allowed to vote in the by-elections.
Electors are being reminded to take their voter ID cards to the polling station. The EOJ is appealing to electors who have not yet collected their voter ID card to visit their EOJ constituency office to do so ahead of the by-elections.
Voters are entitled to three hours off from work to vote in the by-elections on November 22. The three hours off to vote is in addition to the usual lunch hour. The law, however, does not apply to persons who commence work at 10:00 a.m. or later or end work at or before 2:00 pm.
