All Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) constituency offices will facilitate the collection of voter identification (ID) cards on Saturdays, starting this weekend on August 9.

According to a release from the EOJ, constituency offices will open to the public from 10 am and 4 pm. The EOJ has extended the hours in an effort to facilitate registered electors who may not be able to collect their voter ID cards during the regular opening hours.

“We are opening our offices on Saturdays to make it convenient for electors to be able to collect their voter ID card ahead of the upcoming General Election. We have had a number of requests from electors who want to collect their ID card but cannot make it to the offices before closing hours during the work week”, Glasspole Brown, director of elections, explained.

The EOJ is encouraging all electors who have not collected their renewed voter ID card to take advantage of this opportunity so that they can take it to the polling station on Election Day.

Back in June, during an interview with JIS News, EOJ’s Manager, Public Relations and Communications Daynia Harper revealed, “At this time, we have approximately 120,000 voter ID cards in our offices waiting to be collected by electors. We did a renewal exercise in 2019, and we had quite a few persons who renewed their voter ID cards, but did not come to collect them.”

She further stated that many of the uncollected cards belong to individuals who registered to vote as far back as 2016, receiving the ID card that would have expired in 2019, but was later extended until 2021. These cards were automatically renewed by the EOJ, but thousands of electors have yet to retrieve them.

“We’re impressing upon registered electors to visit their EOJ constituency office and collect their voter ID cards,” Harper urged then.
