It’s been a dreary time for Manchester City with many now doubting Pep Guardiola’s magic and whether the team can qualify for European spots next season.
They lost the last eight away games, would Leicester be the ninth today?
Manchester City looked determined this afternoon and played with vigour. Leicester competed well giving no quarter. City were made to work.
Savinho put the visitors ahead in the 21st minute. Jamie Vardy showed that at 37 he is still a good striker. He missed a couple of good chances and some may argue that the Foxes should have come away with a draw at least but there it is.
Haaland played well today and got his just desserts scoring in the 74th minute with a header.
Phil Foden seems a shadow of the player he was last season but today put in a very good performance.
Playing in a 4-1-4-1 formation and captained by Kevin de Bruyne, Manchester City came away with a much-needed three points which sees them climb to fifth spot on the EPL table, 14 points behind Liverpool.
Manchester City may yet still grab a top-four spot although by their lofty standards that would be a disappointing season for them.
The game at the King Power Stadium was City’s second win in 14 matches. A dismal run.
Pep Guardiola is a fighter and will find a way to come out of this woeful spell. Today may be just that platform he needs. The Spaniard is not going to lie down and rollover. That is not his way.
“I will try, I will keep going. I will not give up. I want to be here. I want to do it and with the situation that we have, we have to do it.
“Of course, I want to end the bad run, everyone wants it. I don’t want to disappoint my people in terms of the club, the fans, the people who love this club,” said the Manchester City boss.
