Jamaica produces an average of 8,657 tonnes of solid waste daily, according to the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA),
In an effort to promote upcycling and sustainability, the Esirom Foundation is partnering with Seprod to introduce a new initiative to repurpose some of the waste that the island produces. This partnership harnesses the power of innovation to address environmental concerns while engaging and educating children in a fun and interactive manner.
The centrepiece of this initiative is the creation of an edutainment game crafted from upcycled tetra packs, the material commonly used to contain Seprod brands Eve’s Almond Milk, Serge Island Dairy, and Monster Milk. This game will provide children with a hands-on opportunity to play with recycled materials while they learn about the importance of recycling and environmental conservation.
Daynah Parchment, Eve’s brand manager, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting Seprod’s commitment to supporting upcycling efforts in the country. “As one of the sponsors of Earth Hour, which was held last March 23, we are passionate about contributing to sustainable initiatives and want to do more,” Parchment stated. “Partnering with Esirom to create this innovative edutainment game aligns perfectly with our mission to impact the environment positively.”
Khalia Hall, Esirom Foundation’s sustainability manager, emphasised the game’s educational aspect. “Our goal is to educate consumers and children alike on the importance of upcycling in a fun and engaging way,” Hall explained. “By creating this edutainment game, we aim to instil a sense of environmental responsibility and inspire future generations to take action.”
After creating the game, Seprod plans to donate it to Edward Seaga Primary (formerly Denham Town Primary), which is near and dear to his heart. This will ensure that children can enjoy and learn from it for months.
This innovative collaboration between Esirom and Seprod underscores their shared commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. By leveraging creativity and cooperation, they pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
