Opposition Spokesperson on Health Dr Alfred Dawes is still not buying the argument that the Andrew Holness administation did not know it was directly paying the Cuban government for services rendered by the Cuban medical brigade.

Dawes, in an interview with Our Today just outside Gordon House earlier this week, found it strange that the government is feigning surprise when the arrangement was an ‘open secret’.

His comments come days after a Ministry of Foreign Affairs communique which stated that the government decided to terminate the 50-year medical partnership with Cuba after learning that its payments to the doctors and nurses stationed here were going directly to the Cuban government.

Jamaica’s decision to discontinue the 50-year medical cooperation programme with Cuba has raised much discussion.

Will it impact healthcare in Jamaica?
