The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona will be hosting a Health and Wellness Fair on Tuesday, November 19, in observance of International Men’s Day.
The event set for the Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS), will be centred around the theme ‘Men’s Health Champions: Take Action! Get Healthy’ hopes to raise awareness of key health issues affecting men while providing a platform for healthier living.
International Men’s Day is a global occasion to celebrate the positive contributions of men and highlight issues such as mental health, wellness, and lifestyle. This year’s fair will focus on empowering attendees—especially male students, staff, and community members at UWI Mona—with the knowledge and tools to improve their health and well-being.
The opening ceremony will feature Professor William Aiken, a leading men’s health advocate and consultant urologist, as the guest speaker. His address will set the tone for a day of informative sessions and activities aimed at promoting better health-seeking behaviours.
Event highlights include:
- Health Screenings: Free health check-ups to assess vital health markers.
- Expert Talks: Discussions on mental health, nutrition, physical fitness, and financial health, tailored for men.
- Community Resources: Information on local organisations supporting men’s health initiatives.
- Relaxation: Spa treatments specifically designed for men’s care.
- Competitions: Opportunities to win prizes and enjoy surprises throughout the day.
The fair, running from 9 am to 3 pm, will be located at the IGDS, 9 West Road, near the Basic Medical Faculty Building. The event is part of the UWI’s Creative, Caring, Accountable, Motivated, Professional (CAMP) Team initiative and will be followed by a Health and Wellness Expo by the Faculties of Science and Technology and Medical Sciences on Thursday, November 28, at UWI, the Assembly Hall.
