

Kenyan middle-and-long-distance runner Faith Kipyegon is this year’s winner of the Women’s World Athlete of the Year Award for track events.
World Athletics made the announcement on Monday, December 11, in a social media post on Instagram.
Kipyegon is the world record-holder of the 1500 metres and the 5000 metres, both set at the 2023 World Athletics Championship.
She was among 11 other women who were nominated for the coveted title for their standout performances at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, held this summer in Budapest, Hungary.
Among the list of nominees was Jamaica’s very own sprinter Sherika Jackson, Ethiopian long-distance runner Tigst Assefa Tessema, Dutch athlete Femke Bol, Japanese Javelin thrower Haruka Kitaguchi, Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Spanish racewalker Maria Perez, Ethiopian long-distance runner Gudaf Tsegay, American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, Venezuelan triple jumper Yulimar Rojas and Bahraini steeplechase athlete Winfed Yavi.
