The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is confirming that a rumour being circulated about the son of Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie being shot and killed in Tivoli Gardens, West Kingston last evening is false.

The JCF did not say anything more on the matter in a terse statement on Twitter, but the area has been tense over the weekend.

McKenzie is also the member of parliament for West Kingston, where Tivoli Gardens is located.

FIERY PROTESTS

The area has been tense since Saturday evening following the controversial shooting death of a man by a Jamaica Defence Force soldier on Charles Street, also located in the constituency.

This led to fiery protests over two days in which residents set a number of streets in the constituency on fire, preventing the smooth flow of traffic.

The JDF issued a statement on Sunday appealing for calm and urging the residents to allow the authorities to conduct their investigations into the matter.
