Falmouth maul Duncans 3-0 in Trelawny derby and opens up six-point lead in Jamaica Football Championship

Falmouth United have taken charge of Zone B of the Jamaica Football Championship with a 3-0 whipping of Duncan United at Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium on Saturday and opened up a six-point lead atop the table.

Tajay Cooper opened the scoring for Falmouth in the 27th minute before Tavane Kerr doubled the advantage in the 73rd minute and substitute Nicholas Samuel put the icing on the cake in minute 82.

It was Falmouth’s fifth win from six games and they moved to 16 points, six clear of Treasure Beach FC on 10 points after they drew 1-1 with MPA Juniors at Breds Sports Park and inched into second spot.

Courtney Wright scored for Treasure Beach in the 14th minute and Rohan Brown replied for MPA Juniors in the 77th minute for a share of the points but they slipped a spot to seventh on seven points.

Former national champion Reno FC crashed 2-4 Holland PYC at Llandilo Sports Complex and slipped a spot to third on 10 points.

Dashanel Whyte (4th), Ashanwi Daley (47th), Andre Ennevor (65th) and Javon Ambersley (90+3) scored for Holland FYC while Rayon Smith (27th) and Javin Williams (81st) were on the board for Reno.

Reno have slipped a spot to third on 10 points while Holland gained a position to be in sixth spot on seven points.

In the other Zone B encounter, St Bess and Petersfield FC drew 1-1. It was the first point for St Bess but remained at the bottom of the group on one point from their six games while Petersfield climbed to fourth spot on eight points.

Meanwhile, Meadforest FC inflicted the first defeat on Zone A leader Lime Hall, winning 1-0 at the Constant Spring Sports Complex in St Andrew.

Junior McGregory netted the all-important goal in the 36th minute as Meadforest consolidated third spot on 12 points, just one behind Lime Hall who sits atop the zone with 13 points.

Baptist Alliance also moved to 13 points but in second spot on goal difference after edging Tru Juice 1-0 courtesy of an Ackeem Reid strike in the ninth minute. Tru Juice remained in fourth spot on eight points.

Spanish Town Police FC arrested Progressive FC at Carder Park and whipped them 3-0 while Portlanders FC and Grays Inn battled to a 0-0 draw. Spanish Town Police are fifth on six points, just ahead of Progressive on five, the same as Grays Inn in seventh and Portlanders bring up the rear in eighth spot with four points.

The top two teams will gain promotion to the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League.
