A diehard LA Lakers fan is literally taking LeBron James to court over what he claims was the ultimate fake-out.
Andrew Garcia, 29, says he got played when LeBron hinted at a major life decision earlier this week. Thinking the NBA legend was about to retire, Garcia jumped online and dropped US$865.66 on two tickets to what he believed would be LeBron’s emotional farewell game against the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2026.

But instead of announcing the end of an era, LeBron revealed he was just teasing a new ad campaign for Hennessy. No retirement. No final bow. Just brand business.
Garcia wasn’t amused. In a small claims lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County, he argues that LeBron misled fans, and now he wants his money back, citing fraud and misrepresentation, among his reasons. According to Garcia, if he had known it was just a commercial, those pricey seats would’ve stayed right in his cart.
He’s not the only one who felt duped by the dramatic rollout, but so far, LeBron has stayed quiet while the internet does the talking.
Whether the case holds up in court is anyone’s guess, but one thing is certain: this fan’s not letting his courtside cash go without a fight.
