Dancehall artiste Masicka has finally delivered on 438, nearly 10 months after first teasing the highly anticipated studio album.

The 16-track project, released at midnight on Friday (December 3), was hailed by Jamaican Twitter users as a solid album and a great milestone for the genre.

Since dropping 438, Masicka, as well as track favourites Suicide Note and Dear God, have all ranked high on trending Twitter topics, as Jamaicans weigh in on the album.

Effectively declaring himself in a league of his own, Masicka has matured as a lyricist, something easily evidenced in Story—a powerful, nearly 10-minute song broken into three parts.

The album also comes packed with features including the likes of fellow dancehall acts Popcaan, Dexta Daps, Sean Paul as well as British rapper Stefflon Don.

Reactions:

“A ghetto mi bawn, Daddy mi know pain. Mummy, mi happy, all when di clothes stain… Still down to earth all when mi tek di mos’ plane; a fawud from di dirt dawg, so mi nuh play di boast game,” he sings in Ultimate438‘s opening track.

The album morphs from vibe to vibe over its 55-minute runtime, however, Masicka stays consistent in his delivery, telling stories over all 16 tracks.

The self-proclaimed Genahsyde deejay doesn’t pull any punches either and reminds rivals he’s not one to be messed with, in Vanish with crooner Dexta Daps.

“Badness man a study an’ mi nuh skull nuh class. Ketch yuh pon di nozzle an’ mi bus’ yuh head so fass. Leff yuh pon di gravel, a yuh likkle life yuh los’. Me an’ mi gun a travel dat nuh bury unda nuh grass. Cho [expletive deleted]! Brawling wi fling yuh back, nuh mask,” he quipped.

Never one to leave the ladies out, Stefflon Don joins Masicka on Moments, where the two muse over a steamy on-again, off-again relationship.

“When wi cuss an’ wi break up, an’ wi [expletive deleted] an’ wi make up, ain’t nuhbady nuh fed up like we. Fuss as wi wake up, aye, yuh jus’ love yuh make up, ain’t nuhbady weh mi trus’ like she. ‘Mount a space weh yuh take up, inna mi brain it nuh safe, so mi affi tell yuh seh fi cut, my b…” Masicka began in Moments.
