Some of the Jamaican music industry’s most highly respected female personalities will  take to the stage for the second annual Jamaica Music Experience (JAME) and True Tribute Awards next month in New York.

The event, which will be held on Saturday, September 10 at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center in Garden City, New York, is presented by the True Tribute Organization, founded and headed by renowned musician and educator, LeRoy Graham Jr.

Among the Jamaican songbirds to perform are Myrna Hague, the ‘first lady of Jamaican Jazz’; prolific singer and songwriter, Audrey Hall and accomplished gospel singer, Jenieve Hibbert, who is also the daughter of Grammy-winning music legend, Toots Hibbert.

They will be paying tribute in song to this year’s honorees, while legendary co-founder of the iconic VP Records label, Patricia Chin- popularly known as ‘Miss Pat’- will be among the night’s major presenters.

Popular New York radio personality Sheron ‘Sheron P’ Pearson, producer and host of the Conduit Show, will be mistress of ceremonies for the star-studded event, alongside acclaimed IRIE JAM radio host Irwine Clare and veteran radio producer and host, Ken Williams.

This year’s list of honorees includes entertainers such as Jimmy Cliff, Beverly Kelso, Doreen Schafer, Judge Diamond of the Mighty Diamonds, Derrick Morgan and Johnny Osborne as well as radio personalities Ken Williams, Conroy Allison, Carl B Moxie and Jeff Sarge. Organisational leaders including Karl and Faye Rodney, Lesleyann Samuel, Michael R Duncan and Sadie Campbell will also be honoured.

Posthumous awards will go to the late Frederick ‘Toots’ Hibbert, Sonny Bradshaw, Sonia Pottinger, Roland Alphonso and Jerome ‘Jah Jerry’ Haynes, among others.

The Jamaica Music Experience and True Tribute Awards is a unique celebration of Jamaica’s culture, history and development within the music industry and beyond. It commemorates the achievements of Jamaicans past and present, highlighting their commitment and pioneering efforts to share Jamaica’s cultural heritage and musical legacy with the world.

The event also raises funds and awareness for several education projects in Jamaica and the USA developed through the True Tribute Organization Foundation. Chief organiser Graham says the emphasis on female talent for this year’s event is to highlight the sometimes neglected achievements of women in the music industry, both onstage and behind the scenes.

The second annual Jamaica Music Experience and True Tribute Awards is sponsored by VP Records, IMC Media and Sam’s Caribbean Marketplace.
