FIFA has launched disciplinary proceedings against Argentina following incidents involving players and officials after their World Cup final defeat to Spain. 

The investigation comes after heated scenes at the New York New Jersey Stadium, where several members of the Argentina squad and coaching staff were involved in confrontations with Spain players after the final whistle.

Following a review by a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor, FIFA will examine the actions of Argentina players Nahuel Molina and Leandro Paredes, along with assistant coach Roberto Ayala. The cases relate to alleged misconduct, including claims of assault under FIFA’s disciplinary code.

Molina could also face further action over an alleged unsporting behaviour charge, while teammates Thiago Almada and Spain midfielder Gavi are also being investigated for the same offence.

If found guilty, players and officials could face suspensions, with FIFA’s rules allowing for at least a one match ban for breaches of the disciplinary code. The governing body has not yet announced when a final decision will be made.
