The St Thomas police have arrested a filmmaker in Yallahs for being in possession of several fake firearms.

Before sunrise on Monday, June 23rd, lawmen launched a surprise raid on the videographer’s house, catching him unawares. At the property, the constabulary uncovered three imitation guns, taking both them and the filmmaker into custody.

This was part of a wider operation across the parish, as at roughly the same time, members of the JCF also seized a fake shotgun and an unlicensed revolver at Wheelersfield. Two brothers were apprehended over this recovery.

According to the new ‘Firearms Act’, passed in 2022, fake firearms are still taken very seriously by the authorities, as they can be used to intimidate and threaten others. This could then enable their wielders to commit various crimes, such as robbery.

The police assert that the videographer did not have any of the proper certification that would enable him to possess his props, and as such, he is liable to be charged.
