Five things to know about dancehall artiste Tifa

Jamaican singer Latifa Brown, better known as Tifa, is one of the few female artistes who overcame the odds and to become a dancehall star.

Tifa was born on December 12, 1983, and grew up with her grandmother in Kingston, while her mother worked aboard in the US.

Tifa’s interest in music developed from a very young age, listening to musical legends such as Earth Wind and Fire, Patti Labelle and Aretha Franklin at her grandmother’s bar and restaurant.

As a child, Tifa was passionate about the arts and was involved in her school’s choir, drama and dance clubs.

In 2008, the aspiring artiste got her first breaking through with her hit single Bottom of the Barrel.

Subsequent hits included 2009’s Spell It Out and 2015’s Jealous Ova, a collaboration with fellow dancehall artiste Dexta Daps.

Over the years the entertainer has cemented her name in the dancehall industry with a slew of hits.

A True Wolmerian!

Tifa has been a true Wolmerian from a tender age. The artiste attended the Wolmer’s prep school before passing her Common Entrance exams for the Wolmer’s Girls High School.

The Queen of Arts!

Tifa has always had a passion for dancing and singing. While attending Wolmer’s she successfully auditioned for the Ashe Ensemble, she joined the company soon after and was an active member for six years.

The Hockey Star!

The Certified Diva was a very active all-rounder in high school.  Tifa was the leading goaltender for both indoor and outdoor hockey during her senior years at school.

This led to her receiving a hockey scholarship, which she turned down to pursue her studies locally at the University of the West Indies where obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, with a minor in human resource management.

Certified Restauranteur!

In 2021, the entertainer opened her restaurant, Dulcies Jamaican & Everything, in South Florida.

The restaurant is named in honor of her grandmother, Dulcie, who operated a popular restaurant and bar Kingston.

Little Miss Spontaneous!

Tifa is a Sagi and sagis are known explorers and thrill-seekers, and the best way for them to do this is to hit the road. She is that spontaneous friend who will call you up in the wee hours of the morning to go on a road trip.

Tifa enjoys exploring new places explore and Dubai and Thailand are two places she wishes to cross off her bucket list quite soon.
