Sian Thomas-Moore is the newly appointed general manager of the Adam and Eve Day Spa in Kingston.

Thomas-Moore is no stranger to the holistic care and spa industry, she has been a teacher for over 30 years and has held many leadership roles.

The Welsh-born corporate figure is eager to turn things around in the local spa market in her new role at the company.

Outside of her successful career in the spa industry, her personal and family time is very important to her, so she consciously makes an effort to make time for her daughter and mother who are her motivators.

Here are five things you might not have known about general manager Sian Thomas-Moore.

She gets her endorphins going with yoga

Many people use yoga, a physical, mental and spiritual practice, to help them with several aspects of their lives such as meditation, deep concentration and breathing exercises.

For Thomas-Moore, yoga is her grounding mechanism that clears her mind and recentres her mind and spirit for the day ahead.

“I normally get up at 5:00 a.m. daily. My day starts with 15-30 minutes of yoga and meditation, depending on how busy my day is.  My meditation time is an essential daily regime that helps set me up for the day ahead. It centres my body, mind and spirit and it also releases endorphins which make me happier and more balanced,” Thomas-Moore shared.

She owns horses

A huge part of her daily life includes her horses. Growing up on a farm, Thomas-Moore was always accustomed to the natural country life of living on a farm and tending to her horses.

Every day after yoga, she visits Caymanas Park to see her horses, or go for a ride. From time to time, she also does training with the other horses.

“I was born into farming, agriculture and horses were everything to me. It has been my way of escaping for decades, from a busy work environment. My work life is very busy and so keeping a balance of both is essential.  When I ride or work with horses, I feel this sense of freedom. That sense of freedom as you are galloping along a beautiful coastline is something that money cannot buy!”

“The wind in your hair and that sense of adrenalin kicks in, as I become one with my horse.  Also, the energy horses emit is something I crave, they are like big dogs really. If my day is feeling overpowering, I escape for some horse energy.  I feel like a different person after an hour with my horses,” Thomas-Moore added.

She’s a Boxer

Growing up with a lot of brothers in a male-dominated household, she was taught boxing and other “boyish” sports which she uses as an adult to help filter stress.

Thomas-Moore was introduced to boxing at a tender age, she gradually developed a love for it over time.

“All my family boxed and so I was taught to box also. I love all sports, but my passion has always been martial arts. I try to train twice a week to maintain my standard.”

Thomas-Moore shared that she uses boxing to release any form of pressure and tension buildup she might experience.

“The fact that I can channel my energy into a kick bag or punch bag, allows me to offload any negative energy- Energy is everything to me. It’s human nature to feel frustrated at times in life, having the right outlet is essential. As a woman in the corporate world, we have to have channels to filter any forms of stress. As stress is the biggest killer worldwide and so for me it’s essential that I maintain a balance of my body, mind and spirit to avoid being affected by stress. Martial arts does this for me.”

Loves Water

It is believed that water is a natural purifier and has the power to “wash” away negative energy. As a holistic expert, Thomas-Moore believes in this theory and for her water is essential to life.

“Every single week, I go for water, without fail- Whether it’s seawater or River water. Water helps to wash any negative energies off you.  It is also great hydrotherapy for the body and muscles.”

The word ‘spa’ comes from the Latin term “Sanus Per Aqua”, which translated means, health through healing of water.

For Thomas-Moore engaging in water and spa activities is a lifestyle for her. It is something she practices daily by drinking plenty of water, eating a healthy balanced diet and having regular spa treatments to maintain and balance my body and muscles.

“I swim a few times a week when I can, as I love swimming and diving. Sometimes I even take my horses swimming with me. But alongside this, I have regular massage and reflexology. For me, water and massage go hand in hand. I find it great to get some water and then an amazing massage.”

She enjoys gardening

Gardening is a therapeutic activity that some people do whether in their spare time. Having learned gardening from her mother, Thomas-Moore has lived up to her agricultural background and even grows her own food.

She said she loves gardening and would spend time each night watering my plants, which is also considers as meditation.

“Coming from a farming and agricultural background means I have been raised to grow my own food and plant my own flowers. My mum is ‘Mrs Green Fingers’ and has taught me everything I know about gardening, “Thomas-Moore shared.

“My mum is still essential in advising me when I have problems with plants or vegetables. I love being at one with Mother Nature and walking bare feet on grass or soil. That connection when we walk bare feet on mother earth has a very unique balancing energy for our bodies and minds. It is our connection to the energy of the earth,” she added.
