

Tessanne Chin is a Jamaican reggae artiste who stated her professional music career in 2006, with her hit single Hide Away which received heavy rotation on Caribbean radio and select stations in New York.
In 2013, the artiste shot to global fame after winning Season five of NBC’s reality TV singing competition, The Voice.
Chin grew in a musical family. Her parents were both musicians who played in a band called The Carnations.
Chin would eventually start performing at the tender age of six years old with Cathy Levy’s Little People and Teen Players Club.

In the early 2000s Chin joined the Jamaican rock band Mile High and performed for crowds at many local venues including Jazzfest, Rockfest, and RETV Unplugged.
Chin dropped her independent debut album In Between Words in 2010. Over the years, the entertainer has performed for audiences worldwide and has opened for famous acts such as Peabo Bryson, Patti Labelle and Gladys Knight.

She was a backup singer
Chin toured with, legendary Jamaican reggae artiste, Jimmy Cliff for three years as a back-up singer, before she decided to launch her solo career. During this time the artiste gained immense experience from the world-famous musician.
She’s performed at the White House
In 2014, Chin performed at the White House for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama during the “In Performance at the White House” series.
The concert celebrated women of soul and was dubbed “Women of Soul: In Performance at The White House.”

First Jamaican to enter The Voice?
As you may know, the Jamaican artiste won popular American reality TV singing competition The Voice in 2013. But did you know, Chin was the first Jamaican to enter the competition? Yes, it is said that the Messenger singer was the first known Jamaican to enter the competition.
Favourite Movie of all time
The recording artiste says there is one movie she never gets tired of watching, and that movie is, The Sound of Music.
This shouldn’t actually come as Chin actually loves the ‘sound of music’.
