Flight attendant caught in US$75k drug bust charged

The female flight attendant who was caught with an estimated value of US$75,000 (J$11 million) in cocaine at the Sangster International Airport was charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, attempting to export cocaine, and conspiracy to export cocaine.

The 47-year-old was identified as Michelle Virgo. She is a dual citizen of Jamaica and the United States (US) and was charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act on Saturday (June 10).

Reports are that on Tuesday (June 6), Virgo was boarding a flight to New York. During security checks, approximately 1.5 kilograms of cocaine was found concealed in a false compartment of her luggage.

Virgo is scheduled to appear in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday, June 14.

Previous reports had estimated that the value of the illicit drugs was J$14 million. However, it is now reported that J$11 million of cocaine was seized.
