Big October 30 Customer Appreciation Cocktail to be held at Davida’s Restaurant at Crocus Bay

FLOW Anguilla will be celebrating 50 years of telecommunications services on the island at the end of this month.

Telephone services began in 1971 by the then provider, Cable and Wireless, which changed its business name at least twice in Anguilla as well as in other Caribbean territories. The regional telecoms giant will celebrate the anniversary event with a Customer Appreciation Cocktail to be held on October 30 at Davida’s Restaurant at Crocus Bay.

In a formal invitation, FLOW Anguilla advised its customers, “join us in celebrating 50 years of togetherness at our Customer Appreciation Cocktail… .Thank you for allowing us to keep your connection going strong”.

The company further advised, “please note this event is based primarily on the current Government’s [COVID] Protocols permitted at the time of the event. If there are any changes to the protocols, we will update you accordingly. Masks are required for attendance. We look forward to celebrating with you”.

When Cable & Wireless, the UK-based company, with offices in the Caribbean region, commenced its operations in Anguilla in 1971, its telecommunication services were provided from a mobile vehicle parked just above the old Valley Police Station. After some years, the company acquired its own land, in The Valley, where it built its current Administrative Building, which has been considerably expanded over the years.

The company also established sub-telecommunications buildings at East End and Lower South Hill as well as towers in several other areas of the island. For many years, Cable & Wireless held the monopoly as the only telecommunications company in Anguilla.

Since then, Digicel, an international company, also with branches in the Caribbean, became Anguilla’s second telecommunications provider. This was followed by a locally owned and operated company, WEB LINKS, which is no longer in existence.
