Telecommunications giant Flow Jamaica’s technical teams have continued to restore fixed and mobile services impacted by the passage of Hurricane Beryl across the island.

“We are continuing our efforts to restore services as we collaborate with the country’s main commercial electricity provider to get our customers impacted by the hurricane back online in the shortest possible time,” said Stephen Price, vice president and general manager.

Many of the areas experiencing service outages are communities where commercial power was lost during the storm.

Among the parishes where services were mainly affected are Portland, Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, St. Elizabeth, Manchester and St. James.

Some 19 per cent of the 1,714 fixed service sites impacted by commercial power across the island have been restored to date. These include sites in Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, and St. James.

The communities where services have so far been restored include sections of the Corporate Area, sections of May Pen in Clarendon, sections of Portmore and Spanish Town in St. Catherine and sections of Montego Bay, Sandy Bay, Bogue Hill, Unity Hall, Coral Gardens and Ironshore in St. James.

On the mobile network, the company has been able to restore 77 per cent of population coverage up from 66 per cent in the aftermath of the hurricane.

The company’s technical teams will complete their respective damage assessment and evaluation of areas impacted in the coming days as efforts to effect the restoration of services to even more communities continue. Flow’s teams will also maintain topping up generators for major sites for areas affected by commercial power outages.

In the meantime, the company has been facilitating charging of devices and other services via its ‘Store on Wheels’ in the communities of Majesty Gardens, Denham Town, Seaview Gardens in Kingston and St. Andrew; Mitchell Town and Portland Cottage in Clarendon and Flanker in St. James.

On Monday, Flow’s Store on Wheels will visit Mitchell Town and Portland Cottage in Clarendon.

Flow Jamaica says it remains committed to keeping its customers connected as the restoration efforts continue.
