Flow Jamaica is gearing up to empower the younger generation with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital world responsibly.

On Tuesday, February 6, designated as Safer Internet Day, Flow Jamaica, in collaboration with its Flow Foundation and Liberty Latin America (LLA) counterparts, will spearhead initiatives aimed at promoting safer and more responsible use of digital technology, with a special focus on the youth demographic.

One of the flagship events organised by the Flow Foundation is the Youth Summit, set to take place at the Kendal Camp and Conference Centre in Mandeville. Under the theme, ‘Cyber Life: Balancing Safety with Opportunities,’ the summit will convene over 300 students and feature a distinguished panel comprising top Jamaican content creators Tami Chin Mitchell and Quite Perry, psychologist Yanique Peddlar, IT experts, and student leaders.

Flow’s commitment to championing online safety spans years, and the company remains steadfast in its mission to foster a culture of respect, responsibility, and empathy in the digital realm. Marilyn Sealy, senior director of communications at Cable and Wireless Communications, reiterated the company’s dedication to this cause, emphasising the critical importance of prioritising online safety in today’s digital age.

She said, “In today’s digital age, ensuring a safer internet experience is not just a responsibility; it’s a necessity. Safer Internet Day serves as a timely reminder for all of us to prioritise online safety and well-being.”

Highlighting the significance of collective efforts in promoting internet safety, Sealy added, “Safer Internet Day is a moment for reflection, education, and action. We believe that by working together with communities, educators, and industry stakeholders, we can create a safer and more positive online experience for everyone.”

Flow encourages individuals, schools, businesses, and communities to actively participate in Safer Internet Day activities, engage in discussions surrounding internet safety, and utilise hashtags #SaferInternetDay and #ConnectedandProtected to join the conversation.

For further inquiries and involvement in Safer Internet Day initiatives, individuals are encouraged to reach out to Flow Jamaica or visit its website for more information.
