As the people of Haiti face yet another catastrophic crisis, Food For The Poor Jamaica is joining its overseas office in Florida in sending and organising aid to the country as it reels from a 7.2 magnitude earthquake and braces for tropical storm rains.

Just a few days before the August 14 quake, Food For The Poor in Florida sent much-needed food supplies to three distribution centres across the region and in the morning after the tremor struck, five 40-foot containers laden with relief supplies were dispatched to the epicenter at les Cayes, some 80 miles south-west of the capital Port-au-Prince.

Food For The Poor Jamaica has set up a Haiti Relief fundraising page – www.foodforthepoorja.org/haiti-relief/ – with the aim of raising at least US$50,000 to go towards providing further assistance to the Caribbean nation.

Persons wishing to make donations may use NCB Account # 471043885 at the St Jago Shopping Centre branch, Spanish Town (Branch Code: 00047) or utilize the NCB Direct Banking Unit.

The organisation will also be hosting a  ‘Day of Prayer for Haiti’ on August 18, with Food For The Poor Inc joining the Jamaica office in offering prayers throughout the day.
