Former Deputy Premier found guilty in the Turks and Caicos government corruption trial; Misick still to be tried

In what could be argued as the Turks and Caicos’ (TCI) most important government corruption trial in recent regional history, the first Special Investigation and Prosecution Team (SIPT) corruption trial concluded with two defendants, former Deputy Premier and Finance Minister Floyd Hall and Clayton Greene found guilty and Jeffery Hall and Melbourne Wilson acquitted.

The accused, Floyd Hall, Jeffrey Hall, Clayton Greene, and Melbourne Wilson, stood accused of various charges, including conspiracy to defraud, bribery, and concealing or disguising the proceeds of criminal conduct.

According to the Turks and Caicos newspaper the SunTCI, The charges against the four defendants were rooted in their alleged involvement in three projects where the Crown and the Turks and Caicos Islands Government were implicated in transfers of land at Water Cay, North West Point, and West Caicos.

Floyd Hall, Jeffrey Hall, and Melbourne Wilson faced charges related to their involvement in these land transfers. Clayton Greene, on the other hand, faced money-laundering allegations connected to funds received from the sale of lands at Water Cay and North West Point.

Floyd Hall, represented by Earl Witter, KC, and Kayode Smith; Jeffrey Hall, represented by Ian Wilkinson, KC, Kimone Tennant, and Jamal Misick; Clayton Greene, represented by Richard Bendall and Kishanta Hall; and Melbourne Wilson, represented by Alair Shepherd, KC, his son James Shepherd, and Ari Comert, had each assembled formidable legal teams to present their cases.

King’s Counsel Andrew Mitchell led the prosecution, with support from Quinn Hawkins, Kate Duncan, and Enjaleek Dickenson from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

According to Turks and Caicos Weekly News, The verdict delivered by Chief Justice of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Mabel Agyemang found Floyd Hall Not Guilty of Conspiracy to Defraud in the Water Cay Land deal, Not Guilty of Conspiracy to Defraud in the North West Point Land deal, Guilty of Bribery in the Richard Padgett bribery case, Not Guilty in Not Guilty of Conspiracy to Defraud in the West Caicos Land deal and Guilty of Concealing the Proceeds of Criminal Conduct.

Clayton Greene was found Guilty along with Hall of Concealing the Proceeds of Criminal Conduct.
