UPDATE: Former JDF officer dies in St Mary plane crash

A former commanding officer for the Jamaica Defence Force’s (JDF) Air Wing Reserves has died in Friday’s (May 5) plane crash in St Mary.

The former army man has been named as Major Dudley Beek.

Beek was the pilot of the single-engine plane that crashed near Highgate in the parish earlier this morning.

Another passenger who was onboard the plane was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the crash. Local authorities at the scene have theorise that the crash may be due to engine issues.
