People’s National Party (PNP) councillor-candidate for the Lacovia Division in St Elizabeth has been freed of assault charges.
Twenty-nine year-old high-school teacher, Oshane Gayle, was freed when he appeared in the St Elizabeth Parish Court in Santa Cruz after the complainant, Desrene Foster, with whom he had a romantic relationship and shares a child, told the court she has no further interest in the case.
This information was communicated to the court through her attorneys, Yushaine Morgan and Cherece Cummings. The court was advised that Foster has reconciled her differences with Gayle, who was represented in court by attorney Thomas Levene. The aspiring councillor was arrested and charged in 2023 following an incident at Foster’s home.
Subsequent to the incident, Foster gave birth to Gayle’s child and all three were present in court yesterday. Gayle, who is a teacher at Maggotty High School in the parish, expressed gratitude at the outcome and is looking forward to bonding with his first child.
As to his political future, Gayle remains a committed supporter of the PNP and looks forward to serving in whatever capacity the party deems fit. Last October, the PNP moved swiftly to sever ties with Gayle after he was charged with assault.
At the time, he was selected to represent the party in the Lacovia Division in the St Elizabeth North Western constituency in the upcoming local government election.
