Fort Lauderdale man held after attempting to board flight from Jamaica with ammunition

A Fort Lauderdale resident has been arrested after attempting to board a flight at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston with fifteen 9mm cartridges.

Charged with unauthorized possession of ammunition is 42-year-old carpenter Scarheem Luchie of Fort Lauderdale and also from Portland Cottage in Clarendon. The police report that at about 7:00 am on April 28, Luchie checked in to board an outgoing Inter-Caribbean flight.

The lawmen observed certain anomalies and checks were made when they discovered the ammunition in a bag Luchie was carrying. After conducting a secondary search, a magazine containing the 15 cartridges was discovered.

Luchie was subsequently arrested and charged. His court date has not yet been finalized.
