Four men who were arrested following the alleged assault of two police officers during a football match at Ferdi Neita Park in Braeton, Portmore, on Sunday were today slapped with several charges, including assault.

Charged are 34-year-old Cory Burke, a footballer of King Street, Spanish Town; 38-year-old Keronie Moffat, a customer service representative of Daphnel Avenue, Eltham Park; 32-year-old Cavel Christie, a construction worker of Salt Pond Road, Spanish Town; and 43-year-old Conroy Green, a contractor of Dixon Avenue, Maryland, Seven Springs, United States.

They have been charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and using indecent language in relation to the incident, which occurred on January 25.

Reports from the Portmore Police are that about 4:30 pm, the men were occupants of a white Toyota Noah motor vehicle that was blocking an entrance, causing a disturbance at the football match. Police responded and instructed the driver to move the vehicle, but he reportedly refused.

The men allegedly exited the vehicle, behaved in a disorderly manner, and directed indecent language toward the officers. When police attempted to arrest them, they reportedly resisted and physically attacked two officers. Investigators said additional men joined in the assault.

The officers, fearing for their safety, discharged one round into the air, which caused the attackers to disperse. Both officers sustained injuries.

Additional police units were called to the scene, and the accused men were later identified, taken into custody, and formally charged.

Their court dates are being finalised.
