A routine supermarket trip turned into a life-changing moment for Tameika Miller, a young woman from Rockfort, Kingston, who never imagined that an impulsive decision to enter the 2023 ‘Guinness Born for Greatness campaign would set off a chain of events that would transform her life and the lives of those around her.
Winning the JMD1 million grand prize wasn’t just a financial boost—it was an opportunity to uplift her family and community, proving that greatness isn’t just about personal success but about the impact we make on others.
Tameika always dreamed of running her own retail business, a goal she worked toward by earning an Associate Degree from the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC).

However, financial constraints put her plans for a Bachelor’s Degree on hold. When she won the competition, she faced a difficult choice—invest in her education or take care of her family. “I bought a bed for myself since I didn’t have one,” she shared. “But the real reward was helping my mother, who sells downtown. I gave her a large portion of the funds to help her buy produce for resale in the market.”
But her generosity didn’t stop there. Tameika quietly became a lifeline for others in her community, offering help whenever she could—with no expectation of anything in return. Whether it was providing lunch money for children or stepping in when someone needed assistance, she embraced the true meaning of greatness. “Helping people from my heart is what greatness means to me,” she said.
Though she redirected her winnings, her dreams never wavered. “I’m still fully committed to pursuing my degree, but I felt it wasn’t the right time,” she said. “I’m happy I could help the people I care about, and I’d encourage others to do the same if they’re in a position to. My time will come because I believe in myself and will work towards it.”

Now working as a Store Associate, she is focused on earning a supervisor role, taking the next step toward saving for school, and achieving her long-term goals. The ‘Guinness Born for Greatness’ campaign, inspired by Buju Banton’s album of the same name was created to celebrate resilience, boldness, and untapped potential—qualities that Tameika embodies effortlessly.
“Winning this competition has changed my life in ways I never expected, and I’m truly grateful,” she said. “It gave me the confidence to believe in myself, and now I know anything is possible. Look at it—I was casually shopping for groceries and won JMD 1 million. That alone is encouragement enough, and I truly believe that’s exactly how I was meant to use the money at the time.”
Tameika’s story is a powerful reminder that greatness isn’t just about personal achievement—it’s about the way we serve others and remain open to life’s opportunities. “When you act from the heart, it makes all the difference,” she said.
Her journey is far from over. While she hasn’t reached all her professional goals yet, the seeds of change she has planted in her community will continue to grow. And as she focuses on her growth and development, she knows that her time will come.
