Former US President Donald Trump.

Former United States President Donald Trump today (May 4) launched a new communications platform aimed at eventually giving him the ability to take his message directly to followers after months of being banned from social media sites platforms like Twitter and Facebook.

The platform, called ‘From the Desk of Donald J. Trump’, appears on www.DonaldJTrump.com/desk.

According to Fox News, the space will allow Trump to post comments, images, and videos.

The technology, Fox News said, appears to be powered by Campaign Nucleus, which is characterised as “a digital ecosystem made for efficiently managing political campaigns and organisations”, and was created by the ex-President’s former campaign manager.

FOLLOWERS TO SHARE POSTS TO TWITTER, FACEBOOK

Followers on the space will be able to share Trump’s posts to Twitter and Facebook, but will not be able to ‘reply’ or engage with them.

Trump had previously said he intended to move ahead on creating his own social media platform after he was banned from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat in the aftermath of the January 6 Capitol riot.

However, Fox News said it was unclear whether this platform is part of those plans, or if a separate project is being worked on as well.

While Facebook’s Oversight Board is slated to announce a decision on whether should be allowed back on that platform, Twitter has already indicated the former president is permanently suspended from tweeting.
